{"id":102,"date":"2014-07-05T13:46:11","date_gmt":"2014-07-05T13:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.volucer.it\/?p=102"},"modified":"2014-07-05T13:49:04","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T13:49:04","slug":"web-search-engines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.volucer.it\/?p=102","title":{"rendered":"Web Search Engines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As we can see on [2] \u201cThe Indexed Web contains at least 2.02 billion pages (Saturday, 05 July, 2014)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As a consequence we need to use a service of a web search engine if we want to find something of interest on the Web or answers to some questions .<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For this reason search engines are generally used as \u201cInternet users' entry point to the digital world\u201d [1] to make their searches (according to ComScore [3] searches are defined as \u201cuser engagement with a search service with the intent to retrieve search results.\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>In the following figure we can see an outlook of web search scenario in relation\u00a0to the huge quantity of web pages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WebSearchEngineOulook.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-103\" src=\"http:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WebSearchEngineOulook.png\" alt=\"Web Search Engine Outlook\" width=\"630\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WebSearchEngineOulook.png 630w, https:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WebSearchEngineOulook-300x217.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We have many types of web search engines working on indexed pages:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GENERAL SEARCH ENGINE like Google, Bing and Yahoo;<\/li>\n<li>COMPUTATIONAL KNOWLEDGE ENGINE like www.wolframalpha.com;<\/li>\n<li>ANSWER SEARCH ENGINE like www.chacha.com;<\/li>\n<li>IMAGE SEARCH ENGINE like www.picsearch.com;<\/li>\n<li>VIDEO SEARCH ENGINE like on.aol.com;<\/li>\n<li>TORRENT SEARCH ENGINE like www.ktorrents.com;<\/li>\n<li>PERSON SEARCH ENGINE like www.spokeo.com;<\/li>\n<li>EMAIL SEARCH ENGINE like www.emailsherlock.com;<\/li>\n<li>BUSINESS SEARCH ENGINE like www.business.com;<\/li>\n<li>BLOG AND FORUM SEARCH ENGINE like omgili.com;<\/li>\n<li>META-SEARCH ENGINE like www.dogpile.com.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As we have many search services, the web search is still dominated by Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. The following figure gives a clear idea even if it's referred to 2012. The graph in the figure is based on 200 billion searches done in the United States in 2012 [1].<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/InternetSearches2012.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-104\" src=\"http:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/InternetSearches2012.png\" alt=\"Internet Searches 2012\" width=\"606\" height=\"341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/InternetSearches2012.png 606w, https:\/\/www.volucer.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/InternetSearches2012-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The next step for the web search engines will be the semantic search because people are going to commuicate with them in a way that's much more natural to their thinking.
